Submitting the Project
Before a project is submitted, Ekotrope will complete a QA check to ensure that the project has a valid address. A valid address is one that is mapped to an existing address in the APS system (energyOrbit). This document will outline how to submit the project and, if necessary, how to connect the Ekotrope project to an address in the APS system.
*Please note: the model on the Ekotrope project will need to match a floor plan in the APS system. There is not a QA check on Ekotrope for this field, so please confirm that the model matches a floor plan before submitting. If you need to update the model to match, you will need to resubmit the project to the RESNET registry.
Single Project Submission
When you are on the project page:
Click Submit Project
Select “APS Rebate Program 2021” from the drop-down menu.
Ekotrope will complete the Address Verification QA check, and if it passes, click submit.
If it does not pass, you will then need to update the address information by following the instructions in the Manual Address Verification section of this document (below).
Pop-up screen with QA checks:
Batch Submission
If you want to submit more than one project at once, you can use the Batch Actions feature. To do so, select the projects you want to submit on the My Projects page and click the Batch Actions button under the Project List. Then click Submit to Utility Program. (Hint: holding shift will help select large sets of projects)
The address verification will happen automatically. For the projects that have valid addresses, they will be submitted to APS. For the projects with invalid addresses (meaning, they cannot be matched to an existing address in the APS system), they will not be submitted. You will receive a summary email outlining which projects were successfully submitted and which ones failed.
Manual Address Verification
Manual Address Verification only needs to be done if the automatic verification did not succeed. The address verification attempts to match the Ekotrope address with an existing address in the APS system (energyOrbit). If the Ekotrope address cannot be matched with an APS address, then the verification will fail. Please review the matching logic under the Tips and Tricks section of this document (below) to ensure your addresses are in the right format.
Please note that once a project is linked to an APS address, changing the Ekotrope address will not unlink the project. A manual re-linking would need to occur. If a project is copied, that will de-link the APS address, so it is safe to copy previous projects as templates for new projects.
If your project fails the Address Verification QA check, then follow the steps below.
- Verify the project’s address. In this case, the project does not have an address to match.
- Click into Project Info to update the address and APS address.
- Under Project Info → Site Info, you can update the project’s address.
- Click into the APS tab to link the project to an APS address
In this example, the project address was never updated. Under the APS tab, click Find APS Address to see a drop-down list of all APS addresses in the project’s zip code.
Select the correct address from the drop-down and then click Update Ekotrope Address.
Click Save, and your project has been correctly linked! You can now submit the project and the Address Verification QA Check will pass.
Tips and Tricks for Address Verification
Matching Logic
Ignores capitalization
Requires exact address numbers
Allows for abbreviations or full spelling (see list below)
Will not work for incorrect spelling, missing N/S/E/W, or missing street type
Abbreviations and their full spelling
*Please note: the abbreviations listed here are not exhaustive. All valid USPS abbreviations should be included in our matching logic, but there may be a few edge cases that still require manual validation.
When inputting addresses, we’d recommend verifying that the numbers and spelling are correct. If abbreviations are used, please verify that they are the ones described above.
If the address is correctly entered, you will then bypass the ‘Find the APS Address” step as the matching will autocomplete for valid addresses when you submit the project to APS.
