Inspector Dashboard

Modified on Wed, 22 Apr at 11:15 AM

When you log in as an inspector, the home screen shows My Inspections — your personal list of assigned jobs. This guide explains how the dashboard is organized, what each card tells you, and what actions you can take without opening an inspection.

The Card List at a Glance

Each inspection appears as a card. The cards are grouped into collapsible sections by when they are scheduled.

SectionWhat It Contains
Pending SubmissionInspections you have started (or finished but not submitted) that are waiting for you to complete or send. Shown at the top so you do not lose track of them.
OverdueAssignments whose scheduled date has already passed but that are not yet submitted.
TodayInspections scheduled for today.
TomorrowInspections scheduled for tomorrow. This section is collapsed by default.
UpcomingEverything scheduled further out.

The number in parentheses next to each section header tells you how many cards are in that group. Tap a section header to expand or collapse it.

What Each Card Shows

A single card can show all of the following, depending on what information is available for that job:

Project name and a short project identifier
Scheduled date
Address
Inspection type (for example, rough or final)
Builder and community
Construction manager contact information
Notes (truncated to two lines; open the inspection to see the full note)
• A status badge and a small date badge (Today, Tomorrow, Overdue, etc.)

Status Colors

The status badge on each card uses a consistent color code so you can see state at a glance.

StatusWhat It Means
UnassignedThe inspection has not been claimed by anyone yet. You can claim it from this screen.
AssignedYou are assigned to this inspection but have not started the form yet.
In ProgressYou have opened the inspection and made changes. Your work is saved locally.
CompletedThe inspection has been submitted successfully.

Filters and Sorting

The toolbar above the card list has two sets of controls.

Filter presets. Quick-select chips let you narrow the list:

All — every inspection assigned to you
Today Only — just today’s scheduled work
Custom filter — opens a modal where you can filter by status or pick a specific date range

When a custom filter is active, the filter icon shows an indicator dot so you know the list is not showing everything.

Sort by. The Sort by dropdown lets you reorder the list. You can sort by date, project name, address, status, inspector, or inspection type, in either direction. The default is Date Ascending. Your choice applies to all sections at once.

Actions on Each Card

The action buttons at the bottom of a card change depending on the inspection’s status.

ButtonWhat It Does
FilesOpens a gallery of files attached to this project on the server — photos from earlier inspections at the same address, along with any project documents. Not the photos you are currently attaching to the form. See Taking and Attaching Photos.
Claim & OpenOn unassigned cards. Claims the inspection (sets you as the inspector) and opens the form.
OpenOn assigned cards you have not started. Opens the form.
ContinueOn in-progress cards. Resumes exactly where you left off.
Prep OfflineDownloads the project data for this inspection so you can work without a connection. See Downloading Inspections for Offline Use.
Ready Offline · [time]A green badge shown when the inspection is already cached on your device. Tap it to re-download fresh data.
DiscardOnly on Pending Submission cards. Permanently deletes your local changes for that inspection after confirmation. Use with care.

Keeping the List Current

The dashboard syncs with the server when you open the app and on demand:

• Tap "Refresh Inspections" below the list to pull the latest data from the server.
• Pull down on the list to trigger the same refresh.
• The last sync time is shown near the title (for example, "Updated 2 hours ago") with a clock icon.

If you are offline, the last synced version of your list stays available. Newly assigned inspections will appear the next time you refresh with a connection.

Prepping for a Day in the Field

Before heading to locations with spotty connectivity:

1. Log in on a reliable connection.
2. Let the list load, then verify your expected inspections appear.
3. Confirm each card you plan to work on shows the Ready Offline badge, or tap Prep Offline to download it.
4. Check that the sync status indicator near the top of the screen is green ("Connected") with no pending syncs.

Once all three are true, you can leave the connection behind safely.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I have way more than 1,000 inspections assigned. Am I missing some?
A: If your list is very large, you will see a yellow banner that says "Results limited to 1,000. Narrow your filters to see all inspections." Use the filter presets or a custom date range to narrow the view. Inspections are not lost — just not displayed past the cap.

Q: An inspection I was expecting is not in my list. Why?
A: A few possibilities: it may not be assigned to you yet, it may fall outside your current filter (check the active filter chip), or the list may need a refresh. Tap Refresh Inspections to pull the latest assignments from the server.

Q: What is the difference between an "Unassigned" and an "Assigned" card in my list?
A: Unassigned cards are inspections available for anyone on your team to claim. When you tap Claim & Open, the inspection becomes yours and moves to Assigned. Assigned cards are already yours.

Q: I tapped Discard by mistake. Can I get my work back?
A: Discard permanently deletes your local changes for that inspection. If the inspection assignment still exists on the server, you can open it again from the list, but any unsaved work on your device is gone. Always review the confirmation prompt before tapping Discard.

Q: Why is the Tomorrow section collapsed by default?
A: Most inspectors only need to see today’s and overdue work first thing in the morning. Tomorrow’s list is one tap away when you are ready to plan ahead.
