HERS H2O FAQ

HERS H2O was released in Ekotrope RATER on 4/21/2025. We are very excited about this as it adds a new efficiency metric and product for the HERS Rating industry. However, it does add a new wrinkle to the existing Ekotrope billing workflow. Below is a list of FAQ and how H2O billing will work in Ekotrope. How does printing confirmed reports work for HERS H2O?

• Certain confirmed reports, such as the HERS H2O Certificate, will require H2O submission to RESNET before accessing the confirmed certificate. 

Can I register a project as HERS energy and then later register a project as HERS H2O?

• Yes. These two registration events are independent of one another, so you can do one and not the other, in whatever order you need, or both at the same time. 

What if I make an edit to a project after registering the project for HERS energy or HERS H2O?

• When you make an edit to a project after any registration event, you will lose access to all confirmed reports for that project. 

• This is okay! You can re-register the project if needed. 

• We expect HERS H2O inspection data will be gathered after the HERS energy registration is complete. So, once that data is entered, we recommend re-registering for HERS energy and registering for HERS H2O all at once.

What if I register a project for HERS energy and HERS H2O at different times?

• This is okay! We expect this to happen frequently. If you register a project for HERS energy, you gain access to confirmed reports such as the HERS energy Certificate. You won’t have access to any confirmed HERS H2O reports until you register the project for HERS H2O. 

• However, if any changes are made to the project (including changes to water inputs) after HERS energy registration, you lose access to the confirmed reports. If you need to access these confirmed reports again, you will need to re-register the project for HERS energy. 

• This now also applies to HERS H2O. If a project is registered for HERS H2O first and then changes are made to the project, the project will need to be reregistered with HERS H2O to access the confirmed reports.

How can I determine the number of HERS H2O projects in my account?

• You can filter your My Projects page to view only projects that are “Registered for HERS H2O.” If you want to see Projects registered in a certain time period, use the “First RESNET H2O Submission Date” filter facet. 

• 

• We will be adding HERS H2O as a searchable field in the billing dashboard. This will allow you to determine who registered projects as HERS H2O during a specific date range. You can read this help article on how the billing dashboard works.

How does HERS H2O Billing Work?

• HERS H2O will be free to use and register projects via Ekotrope until 8/21/2025. After that, registering a project as HERS H2O will cost. This HERS H2O registration fee will be pay-as-you-go for all providerships, so there will be no contractual commitments to H2O ratings. Homes that are both HERS H2O and HERS energy will incur a fee for both registrations.
