Fannie Mae Submission Setting Guide

What is it?

The Fannie Mae Single Family Green MBS program provides a monetary incentive to home builders if they build homes earn ENERGY STAR certification and the home buyer meets program requirements. Home Energy Raters that utilize Ekotrope can submit energy models directly to Fannie Mae.

There are multiple ways to submit energy models to Fannie Mae in Ekotrope RATER.

This guide will describe how to set a default preference to submit all energy models that qualify for ENERGY STAR and are built by specific builders. This enables rating companies to automatically submit energy models for participating builders.

You can also submit energy models automatically for all builders or on a case-by-case basis.

How does it work?

To set your organization’s default Fannie Mae submission preferences go to your Organization Settings. This is found by clicking on your company name in the upper right-hand corner of Ekotrope RATER. Only users with the Provider Admin credentials will be able to update the organization settings - this includes the organization's default Fannie Mae Submission status.

Find the “Default Fannie Mae Submission” setting. This setting has four options. They are:

  1. Yes

    1. All homes that meet ENERGY STAR requirements will be submitted to Fannie Mae

  2. No

    1. Users can select at “Registration with RESNET” if they want to also submit the home to Fannie Mae. Ekotrope will determine if it qualifies and only submit homes that qualify to Fannie Mae.

  3. Never

    1. Homes are never sent to Fannie Mae and users are not asked to submit homes at “Registration with RESNET”.

  4. Only Specific Builders

    1. Allows Provider / Org Admins to specify which builders should automatically have qualifying homes sent to Fannie Mae.

Select the “Only Specific Builders” option from the dropdown menu. This will show a new text box where you will enter which builders you want to automatically send their energy models to Fannie Mae.

In the new Text Box enter the builder names for which you want to submit compliant energy models to Fannie Mae. You will need to submit the specific name for each builder. Builder names that do not match this list will not be sent to Fannie Mae. Each builder should be on its own line with no characters (e.g., commas) separating each builder name.

Click “Save” to save your builder names.

This setting is specific to your organization.

When the “Only Specific Builders” selection is selected, whenever a rating is “Registered with RESNET” it will be shared with Fannie Mae only if it passes ENERGY STAR and the builder of the home energy modeled is listed in this builder list. This applies to the Ekotrope API as well as batch registrations.
