Multiple Duct Systems Failing IECC Leakage Requirement When Aggregate Leakage Passes

Modified on Tue, 2 Apr, 2019 at 2:30 PM

Some users have asked us if a home with multiple duct systems must meet the IECC duct leakage requirement for each duct system or aggregated across all systems.  We weren’t sure so we checked with some folks from the ICC and they informed us that it is a system by system requirement, pointing out that the IECC’s post-construction test references a [single system’s] air handler.

As a result, if a home has multiple duct systems with one system failing the requirement, Ekotrope will fail that home, even if it meets the requirement in aggregate across all homes.
