Different Energy Results for the Same House?

Modified on Thu, 12 Oct, 2023 at 2:15 PM

Why are energy bills and energy consumption different for the same home on different reports, like the HERS Certificate, the Fuel Summary, the IECC reports, and the Quick Results panel?

Generally, this is due to different assumptions for the various codes and standards, such as thermostat setpoints and utility rates.  The table below shows high level differences between the assumptions for various reports in Ekotrope:

HERS Fuel Summary ComparisonIECC Performance and IECC Fuel Summary Comparison*
Thermostat SetpointsAs modeled in the Usage Info tab68F heating, 78F cooling68F heating, 78F cooling for IECC 2006

*Most energy codes in Ekotrope, including state energy codes are based on IECC and the reports for those codes will have the same assumptions as the IECC reports.
