DOE Efficient New Homes Reporting

Ekotrope fully supports certifying homes through the Department of Energy's Efficient New Homes program (DOE ENH).  If a home complies with the program and the Ekotrope project has been registered with the RESNET Registry as an official HERS Rating, the DOE ENH Certificate will be available for download and printing.

In other software tools, the user is required to save a "DOE ENH Verification Summary" and send the document to the DOE/Newport Partners to register the home with the DOE.  In Ekotrope, this is not necessary.  When a home that qualifies for DOE ENH is registered with the RESNET Registry, the appropriate information will automatically be sent to the DOE to register the home.  One less item to worry about!

DOE requires software tools to report greenhouse gas emissions reductions based on fuel savings.  Ekotrope uses the following factors to determine emissions savings:

Electricity: 

• State averages CO2 emission factors listed below (source: EPA)
• NOx: 0.9 lbs / MWh (national average, EPA E-Grid)
• SO₂: 1.6 lbs / MWh (national average, EPA E-Grid)

Natural Gas

• CO₂: 116.39 lbs/MBtu (source: EPA)
• NOx: 0.11 lbs/1000 cubic ft (source: NREL)
• SO₂: 1.22 lbs/1000 cubic ft (source: NREL)

Propane:

• CO₂: 138.75 lbs/MBtu (source: EPA)
• NOx: 31.4 lbs/kGal (source: NREL)
• SO₂: 22.2 lbs/kGal (source: NREL)

Heating Oil: 

• CO₂: 159.66 lbs/MBtu (source: EPA)
• NOx: 46.5 lbs/kGal (source: NREL)
• SO₂: 69.6 lbs/kGal (source: NREL)
