FAQS Regarding Clothes Washer and Dishwasher Inputs

Modified on Fri, 19 Dec at 8:04 AM

Here are answers to some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) we have gotten about dishwashers, clothes washers and dryers:

If I don’t have the full EnergyGuide label, can I estimate what the values are?

No! Do not guess at any inputs. The inputs can impact energy and water calculations in non-intuitive ways. If the label from the washer or dryer is not available to you, please choose from one of the default options. If you are unsure of which default is most applicable, the  HERS Reference is your best bet.

Why do I need to enter gas info if I have an electric water heater and vice versa?

For estimating consumption of clothes- and dishwashers as defined in RESNET Standard 301,  the EnergyGuide energy consumption must be disaggregated to separate the appliance energy consumption from the water heater energy consumption. Because the EnergyGuide label includes hot water energy using standardized water heater assumptions, the equivalent electrical and gas inputs are used to calculate appliance hot water demand and reassign the associated hot water demand to the rated home’s water heater.

What do I do if I am seeing a warning related to washers or dryers but I’m confident the inputs are correct?

Warnings do not prevent registering to RESNET. If you are confident that your inputs are correct, you can submit to the RESNET Registry with them still in place.
