Multiple Distribution Systems Linked to One Equipment

Modified on Wed, 29 Aug, 2018 at 4:48 PM

Heating and cooling equipment may be linked to more than one distribution system.  If that is the case, Ekotrope will determine a percentage of the heating/cooling capacity directed through each distribution system in the following manner:

1. If there are tested, ducted systems with sq. f.t served specified, Ekotrope will first divvy up the capacity based on square footage served compared to the square footage of the heating / cooling zone.  Square footage of the heating/cooling zone is determined by applying the heating/cooling percent load for a given equipment to the total home conditioned floor area.  For example, if there is a 2,000 s.f. home with a cooling equipment that serves 50% of the cooling load, linked to a duct system that serves 300 s.f., then 30% of the capacity of that cooling equipment will be served through the duct system.

2. If there are untested systems where the sq. ft. served is not specified, the leftover capacity of the equipment after step 1 will be served through these systems, split evenly across them.

Please note: this can mean that if there is a tested system serving the entire square footage of the home, an untested system could be linked, but not actually serving any capacity.
