Master Designs within Projects

To assist raters with data organization and energy design efforts, Ekotrope supports saving multiple "Building Designs" within one Project.  A project should represent one home with a unique street address, or one rating, so please don’t add different ratings as building designs within the same project.

The ability to create multiple designs within a Project is optional, and can be used in several ways:

  • Storing both a projected (pre-inspection) and final (post-inspection) version of the rating

  • Investigating design alternatives or energy upgrades for a given Project.

You can create multiple designs by copying a Building Design using the Copy button on the toolbar below the list of Building Designs.

In any case, Ekotrope requires that one building design within the project is designated as the "Master Design".  The Master Design is meant to represent the design that has been built, will be built or is most likely to be built.  As such, it should be the projected design during the design phase, and the field inspected design after field inspection.  When you first create a project, there will be one design and it will be designated as the Master Design.  During the lifecycle of a Project, use these guidelines to keep your Master Design up-to-date.

Guidelines for designating a Master Design:

  • During the design phase, a Master Design should be the design that is expected to be built.  It should be the design that is used for projected code compliance and permitting.

  • During the inspection phase, the Master Design should be updated with inspected and tested values.  If you would like to keep the projected design rather than updating it, simply make a copy of the design, then update the details of the Master Design.

  • After final inspection, the Master Design should represent the home as-built, and will be used for final code compliance and HERS Rating docs.

  • When you create a new Project, there will be one design by default, and it will be the Master Design.

When using batch reporting, registration and modification features, the Master Design for each project will be used.  When registering a single project with RESNET or submitting for QA, the Master Design will be registered/submitted.
