Slab Library Help

Slab Insulation R Value
(only available if “Slab Completely Insulated?” is checked)
If the slab is completely insulated, this is the thermal resistance value of the slab insulation. All R-Values are in I-P (US) units: (h-ft2-F)/Btu.
Underslab Insulation R Value
(only available if “Slab Completely Insulated?” is not checked)
If the slab is not completely insulated, this is the thermal resistance value of the underslab insulation. This is distinct from the perimeter insulation. All R-Values are in I-P (US) units: (h-ft2-F)/Btu.
Wall Construction TypeFraming type of the exterior wall(s) built on this slab. Valid inputs are Metal Stud or Wood Frame/Other.
Slab Completely Insulated? This checkbox indicates that the slab is completely insulated, including perimeter and underslab, to create a continuous thermal boundary.

If the slab is completely insulated, but there are different R values for the slab perimeter and underslab, or the perimeter insulation extends deeper than the bottom of the slab, it is not recommended to use this checkbox.  Instead, use R-values and perimeter depth as installed with a sufficiently high Underslab Insulation Width to indicate that it covers the whole slab and check the Thermal Break checkbox.  For instance, a slab with R-10 perimeter and R-15 underslab would look like this:

Underslab Insulation Width
(only available if “Slab Completely Insulated?” is not checked)
The width, from the slab perimeter, of the underslab insulation in feet. Only applicable if slab is not completely insulated (including slab edge).  If the underslab is completely insulated, but not the slab edge, use half of the largest slab dimension as the underslab insulation width.
Perimeter Insulation Depth
(only available if “Slab Completely Insulated?” is not checked)
The depth, from the slab’s upper surface, of the perimeter insulation in feet. Only applicable if slab is not completely insulated.
Perimeter Insulation R-Value
(only available if “Slab Completely Insulated?” is not checked)
If the slab is not completely insulated, this is the thermal resistance value of the slab’s perimeter insulation. This is distinct from the underslab insulation. All R-Values are in I-P (US) units: (h-ft2-F)/Btu.
Thermal Break
(only available if “Slab Completely Insulated?” is not checked)
Check this if the underslab insulation is connected to the perimeter and/or above grade wall insulation.
